about

“The Red Brick Store” is a concept album based in Nauvoo, Illinois, during the 19th century. This specific project encompasses a narrative of Emma Smith and Joseph Smith and some of their perspectives and experiences with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the community, and with each other while in Nauvoo. It is a compendium of nine songs, telling the story of John Bennett and his exposure as an adulterer, the organization of the Relief Society and the sisters’ response to John Bennett’s actions, Emma Smith and Joseph Smith’s relationship of love and dissonance with eternal marriage and plural marriage revelations, and other events that occurred in the Red Brick Store of Nauvoo that affect the Church still today. The purpose of the project is tell the story previously mentioned, educate the listener on the doctrines revealed during the Nauvoo period, and to better understand and empathize with the people whose perspectives are presented.
